Sunday rides - info please

Hi,

I�m interested in joining your Sunday ride but wanted to know a bit more info, can anyone join the Sunday rides, is it just a case of turning up at 9.30 at the CE shop ?

I've seen from previous posts you ride between 50-70 miles, I'm comfortable riding these kind of distances, but was wondering the sort of times you do it in ? and how many people do you regularly get on these rides ?

final question, is there a ride this Sunday 31st Aug

Afternoon all... you missed a popular one. I was hoping for glorious sunshine, a big group, crowds lining the streets and a tickertape parade for my first ride since knackering my achilles. Wait... one of those is a complete fantasy.

Anyway, apologies to George for dropping him on the home straight and if you have any sense of self-preservation you did well to stay indoors. I counted about 4 attacks of the four-wheeled kind, and even some dolt on a scooter tried to occupy the same road ...

Each Lap 9 miles up and down , all on trails , some rocks and roots etc

F@ck the sportif crap where no one talks to each other and get envolved in some proper riding to test your self !

Afternoon, I'm around the Finsbury Park area and doing around 30-40 miles on sunday up towards Epping; I think I can cope fine with longer rides though. Are the group rides still on? If so, what distances are you currently doing?

Unfortunately I'm going to have to bail out of this ride. My achilles tendon has been sore since a few days after the Etape, and I've been resting as a consequence.

I'm not sure a 150 mile ride, overnight, unsupported with no way of abandoning the journey if the worst comes to the worst is the best way of easing myself back into the saddle.

As a result, I can give away my return train ticket, complete with cycle reservation for the 10.42 am on Sunday from Ipswich to Liverpool Street. ...

Thanks to ciron for your hospitality on a very very very hard Dragon ride weekend. Although feeling sick after 40miles, I was relived to complete the ride. Thanks to all those who gave encouragement.

I got back to the house had a wash and a snack, felt better, so I decided to drive back.

On the way out I had a chat with your neighbour who sends her best wishes.

Where do you want me to drop of the key, I could do it next Sunday before my ride if ok.

Here is a warning for anyone cycling from Crouch End through to Tottenham High Street. Gangs of teenage kids are targeting cyclists, throwing and kicking things at them, and generally trying to knock them off their bikes. I was hit today and crashed at 20 mph after a ball got stuck between the wheels, buggering my hip and damaging my new bike (fixed gear) whilst heading along West Green Road to Tottenham Hale - a regular Sunday morning route. July please let me know - train tickets have to be reserved from Ipswich (10.42 am) back to Liverpool Street (�6 Advance Saver). Ipswich station is 30 miles from Dunwich, making a total distance of 150 miles in approx. 14 hours. If you have problems with NEEC try Trainline.com - you will have to book the cycle reservation later if you use them (by going to a mainline station with your train ticket). - Michael

Some people may prefer to ride a little more leisurely on Sunday mornings, and indeed many new riders have dropped out because the pace has become too fast. I therefore suggest we organize a second group of riders who can either leave at the same time or, say, half-an hour earlier. You're riding through a leafy tree lined road and the vegetation gradually thins out. Birds are singing. Sheep are baa-ing. A sheer wall then appears in front of you with a ladder ...

Just a quick note to say thanks for a really nice run on Sunday, I was (and still am) the guy on the black Cannondale.

I ended up in the fast group on the way back and got dropped just about where Epping New Rd turns uphill! I got back safely save a little sunburn and some HORRENDOUS bus fumes in the Wood Green area (what are they fueled with - Sulphur?)

I won't be there next week as I'm doing an XC race but come the 25th I'll try and keep up!

ETAPE preview

as etape time closes, 'other' james gave me a CD that previews the etape on video, the route, the climbs etc. i suggest for a social, we can gather at a house, have some pizza, beers and get ready for the pain that is likely to ensue. i mean, the best way would be to ride the stage before hand... haha, we all know that is not going to happen, so let's make a date perhaps at the end of may as june for many of us will be quite busy...

non-etapers are... umm.. maybe welcome ... if they bring ...

You know as a bit of extra training ahead of the Big Dragon.

I have plotted a route which is slightly longer than recent rides at 66 miles or 106 Kilometres.

This will take us further into Essex. Chigwell, Chipping Ongar, Leaden Roding, High Roding, Hatfield Heath (39 miles coffee stop), Matching Tye, Epping, Walthamstow and back to the shop.

This is an Enduro event of either 2,3,5 or 7 laps of a 10 mile course in Swinley Forrest (about 1 .20 from London)

Ciron & I are planning to do the 5 lap job - start time 9.00am.

The course is really cool with loads of climbs , fire road, single track etc (only one drop off !)

Its a popular event but entry on the line is ok.

Cost is �19

Come on you know you want to - it would be great to have a TWG train going !!

i suggest that if any of you will be in this situation, and if you actually have time to think and know that you can't avoid it, when a pedestrian comes out of nowhere and you know impact is imminent and unavoidable, to use your body to take the impact.

this happened to me several days along when some arse ran out and J-ranned across. I was probably travelling at 30km/h, and used my body to take the hit, thus, i think i avoided a destroyed wheel, a broken fork and me flying off my bike. ...

Was a good 'un.

Pretty technical course, and the usual brake neck speed, but we both finished with a couple more cuts and bruises for the collection.

Two very scary drop offs / bomb holes. The second of which was vertical for what felt like a couple of meters. The was also a crazy corkscrew section with about 6 rooty bomb holes in a row.

Luckily we both survived, although both had instances with trees jumping onto the trail. Mine ending in a speedy dismount head first over the ...
