Good group last Sunday with 5 of us (including 1 lady!) and we thought we should spread the word again among regulars and other people interested. Looking forward to this Sunday 9.30 am.
Starting this Easter Sunday, I am organizing longer rides (70 miles minimum) on mostly very quiet roads, with a new start time of 8.30 am outside TWG, reaching to a target of 100 miles in the summer months (with a possible 8.00 am start). All routes will be mapped on GPS. Those interested, please let me know through this forum - Michael

I’m interested in joining your Sunday ride but wanted to know a bit more info, can anyone join the Sunday rides, is it just a case of turning up at 9.30 at the CE shop ?
I've seen from previous posts you ride between 50-70 miles, I'm comfortable riding these kind of distances, but was wondering the sort of times you do it in ? and how many people do you regularly get on these rides ?
final question, is there a ride this Sunday 31st Aug

Afternoon all... you missed a popular one. I was hoping for glorious sunshine, a big group, crowds lining the streets and a tickertape parade for my first ride since knackering my achilles. Wait... one of those is a complete fantasy.

Anyway, apologies to George for dropping him on the home straight and if you have any sense of self-preservation you did well to stay indoors. I counted about 4 attacks of the four-wheeled kind, and even some dolt on a scooter tried to occupy the same road ...

Unfortunately I'm going to have to bail out of this ride. My achilles tendon has been sore since a few days after the Etape, and I've been resting as a consequence.

I'm not sure a 150 mile ride, overnight, unsupported with no way of abandoning the journey if the worst comes to the worst is the best way of easing myself back into the saddle.

As a result, I can give away my return train ticket, complete with cycle reservation for the 10.42 am on Sunday from Ipswich to Liverpool Street. ...

I therefore suggest we organize a second group of riders who can either leave at the same time or, say, half-an hour earlier. The route can be the same as for the faster group, and the two groups could meet up at the same coffee/tea/cake stop. This would encourage not only more cyclists of all ages to join, but also help those who are older ...

Some things you want to know, seeing as we are getting a little bit more serious...

Sitting In and Bowing Out: The Art of Pass/Fail Racing

Cycling should be an enjoyable endeavor. However, sometimes despite our best efforts we wind up in situations on the bike that are simply no fun. Such situations include: having accidents; getting caught in severe weather; and, perhaps worst of all, becoming involved in an amateur road race. Of course, the first two circumstances can be avoided or ...

For those who might be interested in riding back from STOWMARKET to LONDON, 80 miles.

I have looked into the logistics of a bunch of cyclists taking the train.

First problem, to ensure that you can travel with your bike on ONE TRAINS, you need to book a space.

Second, each train will only take up to four bikes.

So if there were eight interested we would need to take two trains. I have looked at the timetable for 1st March and there are two trains within half an hour that ...

Partial credit to Neil for the idea of climbing Muswell Hill over and over. This loop is designed to be a killer so don't worry if you drool and/or lose control of your upper-body motor functions at any point. Repeat as many times as you can before passing out.

so i think there needs to be some form of organisation on the sunday rides in regards to route choice and leadership.

i think right now it is a bit chaotic with several people wanting to go different directions.

every week, there should be one person that decides on the route, a ride leader, if you will, and their decisions on route will be final. if you don't like it , while, when it comes your turn , you can pick your route, but the authorita of the ride leader should not be ...

This was posted by Jonathan in October last year, but I'm not sure anybody saw it! Have we done it since?

------------------------------------------------

This is a ride route that I was asked to post. Riding the back roads to Chipping Ongar, Moreton, Toot Hill, Epping for a stop and back to north London. In fact I recommend it to all, as a great Sunday ride. When we did it, there were roads with not a car in site. Also there are equal measures of flat and lumpy sections.
